Gardeners and Sailors

Playing
negotiating
compromising
with nature

Pulling a weed
moving an old rose
giving in to clover filled lawns
accepting finally
dandelions amid tomatoes
as a salad garden.

Pointing too high in a light breeze
falling off to a port tack
in order to make a
lee side starboard cove
by nightfall
setting a sea anchor
in too strong winds and
riding out a storm

Sipping a cool one
on the back veranda
in fading twilight.

Flying wing on wing
downwind
on a rolling sea.

Gardeners put down roots near home
Sailors set their mains and roam.
