Grumpy

I had a perfectly good grump
going the other day
my back hurt
neck stiff
slept badly

Getting old sucks

I saw this boy
across the street
pigeon-toed for life
cruel gift
playing and laughing
as though his world
were fine

I sighed

Too many years
too comfortable with
snap judgements and
finding fault
opining everything
knowing nothing

Lazy convenience

But negative is heavier than positive
After a while it weighs me down
makes me grumpy
hurts my back

I believed in dreams once
lived the moment
giggled curiosity
People were good
mostly
or at least interestingly weird
not evil

My world
small then
was fine too
Didn’t have to be
better than it was.

I want that again
