Look At Me

Look-at-me clothes
and look-at-me hair
artsy tattoos
and body piercings
I am here
I am real
look at me
look at me
look at me

I mutter my judgements
on decency
and sensible shoes
the wastefulness of
youthful exuberance
forgetting for the moment
the fading memories of
tie-dye
and bell bottoms
of blue suede shoes
and duck tail hair
look at me

But I remember
those ancient
ancestral hands
outlined on cave walls
that joyous, giggling, graffiti
singing out from shadowed ages
I was here
I was real
look at me

And I
in subdued acknowledgement
having recently flung my
poems, my writings
into the ether
in hopes that others will see
like that ancient artist
that young rebel
I too cry out
I am here
I am real
look at me
