a summer’s day unending
school year much too long
someday takes forever
wait til you’re a man
grade school
high school
college
the world at my command
marriage
careers
family
dreams to be postponed
mow the lawn
work overtime
kids to school events
trips that have to wait
no time for books
or writing
or walks
or cooking slow
the hands on the clock
the sand in the glass
slowly lose their sync
the ground becomes much harder
there are rips in superman’s cape
and a hole in the bottom of the hourglass
its not the sand that leaks away
its time itself that oozes out
its time that flies away
