Cruelty is heavy
made of bits of anger
sharp and dark and sullen
sometimes loud
it craves an audience of fools
as it settles slowly to the bottom
scarring all it touches
It is a night diamond
formed in the depths
by the heat and pressure
of thousands of tiny flecks
of drifting fear and rage
congealing finally into pure evil
impermeable to everything
save kindness which
like water down a mountain
can wear it to mud
then dust
to be blown away
in a summer’s breeze
